Welcome To Mountain Glen Harps
Created With Artistic Elegance and Excellence of Sound
My name is Glenn J. Hill and I want to welcome you to the world of my custom one-of-a-kind harps! Each harp I build is perfectly designed and crafted to fit the needs and desires of its owner and player. If you can imagine it…then I can create it!
Custom Harps for Over 35 Years
I have been designing and building one-of-a kind custom carved and sculpted harps since 1978.
This is the “Angel of Light,” a hand carved 31 string Myrtle wood Celtic Harp with embedded crystals.
Innovations in Harp Design
Over the years my clients have many times asked me to design and build for them types of harps that have never been seen before. I have always enjoyed this challenging type of creative work, and continue to do so.
Shown here is a custom 28 laser performance harp with red and green lasers.
Custom Harp Designs
If you have an idea for a harp that you have never seen before, contact me and share your thoughts.
Shown here is the “Pegasus in Flight” harp, made of rock maple with semi-precious stones, opals, and silver inlay and strung with 28 nylon strings.
Let Me Design Your Dream Harp!
I enjoy the co–creative process of working with my clients to bring their most amazing dream harps to life!
From Ancient harps to New Age harps, from harps inspired by the designs of Middle Earth’s Rivendell and Lothlorian, to the Mystic Dream Harp that you only see when you are asleep, I can bring your harp to life for you!
Shown here is the Custom 40 string “Rivendell Harp,” an electric-acoustic-midi harp made with black walnut and myrtle wood and a stained Spruce sound board.
Laser Harps for Installations
This custom Laser Harp was designed and carved for the Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn, New York.
Religious and Spiritual Harps
I have carved and created harps for playing music in a variety of Religious and Spiritual Traditions. Please tell me what your new harp should be like, in beauty of both sound and appearance, to aid you in your special music performances.
Shown here is a custom myrtle wood “King David'” 10 nylon string Kinnor Lyre.
Custom Carving & Sculpting
All Mountain Glen custom harps can be created with custom carving, sculpting, painting, and inlay work of crystals and beautiful gem stones.
38 nylon string Chinese Dragon Harp, made with black walnut with black lacquered spruce sound board. The dragon holds a large jade crystal in its claws. The dragon’s tail emerges from the lower sound hole on the back of the sound box, then curls up the entire pillar. The harp neck is carved with sprays and branches of Ginkgo leaves. This harp has gilded sound holes in Chinese letters.
Shown here is a custom 36 string, nylon strung myrtle wood harp with solid Spruce sound board created for Darren Raleigh. Carved in a polished/rough, hand chiseled style, in the shape and style of the ancient harps of Ireland.
Darren Raleigh Plays Carolan's Farewell to Music
The Irish harp in the background was built for Darren Raleigh. Listen to him play Carolan’s Farewell to Music!
Creative Harp Design
Over the last thirty six years I have carved an extremely wide variety of relief images and fully in-the-round-sculptures on my harps. From winged Pegasus in flight, to howling wolves and dancing unicorns, angels in flight, birds in their nests, and various types of Dragons curling up the pillars and necks of these harps, anything is possible!
I also build hybrid harps with lasers and strings, a new type of harp that has never before been constructed, with multi-media controlled red and/or green laser beams built into a custom harp with strings. These strings can also be set up with individual string transducers to make them electro-acoustic or midi triggering, in addition to the laser triggered visual and audio effects.
Hand Painted Harps
Shown at left is a custom carved, gilded, and painted myrtle wood harp with spruce sound board, created for Derek Bell. Pedal tension 36 gut strings. Crystal ball and natural rounded crystals inlaid in the pillar. In the background is a detail of hand painting on a Celtic harp.

Christina was talking about the custom gut strung electric-acoustic Rainbow Light Harp I created for her 1992. She was amazed that in the recording studio, the sound coming from the harp was so clear that “the recording engineer had nothing to do!”
